How To Measure Hat Size

In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to measure the hat size. Now, what you do need is a tape measure and you are going to go around alright just above the eyebrows and also just above the ears, so you measure all the way around. Betty is a 58 cm.

So, you will need hat measurements if you are making a blocked hat, which is this kind, basically anything with a brim and some skull caps. When I say blocked hats, I mean a hat that is made on a block. These are the wooden blocks that we use to make hats.

Now, people often ask me what the difference is between a fascinator and a hat. Lots of people have got different ideas about this, but I think is that with the hat, you have to use a head measurement so everything is measured specifically for you whereas with a fascinator, you can pop it on your head anyway, so it does not need a head measurement. So, I will just show you that again.

To take the measurement, you just got to go around the tip of the head, just above the eyebrows, above the ears, around the back and take the head measurement. If you are wanting to have a deeper hat or something that goes over the ears, you would add on just a couple of cm so that you can put it down over your ears, but for something like brimmed hat that is high over the head, you would just use it as it is.
