How To Moonwalk In A Circle
The Moonwalk is, without any doubt, one of the most popular dance moves ever to be performed by an artist. It was the signature dance move of the world famous singer, Michael Jackson. It might look quite difficult, but with the right techniques, it's very easy to do. This VideoJug film shows one of the versions of the moonwalk.
I am going to teach the around-the-world moonwalk by Michael Jackson. For those of you who are familiar with the name, it's actually kind of something I have given it my own name because there doesn't seem to be a specific name for it but it's a move taken from the concert footage of Billy Jean. So, we start off with the sideways moonwalk, we bring the foot in, we stretch out, but as we do, we are going to the side, we go to the side and start going to the back.
So, we bring that leg in and we immediately turn. We bring that leg in, transfer the weight, and bring it around. So, what you are constantly doing is transferring weight.
Don't try and think about copying every single step that I am doing and every single angle. Just think about transferring your weight. What does your body have to do to get you around to the other side, what's constantly moving your feet? You can actually get away with sort of doing your own thing, as long as you are shifting your weight all the time.
We are now going to go over the top part. This is the bit that the mime, as you, as many people would call it. Going around, and then as he goes around, he pushes his body round and pretends to mime there is a wall.
He pushes it round, and then there is another hand going out, and he keeps it very smooth and then wall, wall, wall, head and then he goes into the sideways moonwalk. Everything is sort of very loose, very relaxed and it doesn't really make sense to do it relaxed. You think you have to be really tense, but actually, you watch Michael Jackson, he is completely relaxed.
That is, his arms that are tensing but here, he is very relaxed. If you are completely relaxed, your body will just go round and you just get those arms going with it. Those are the bits that are tensing.
