How To Motivate Staff
Is morale low in your office? Do your workers laze around whenever you're not looking? Life Chef Mary Daniels teaches you how to motivate your staff to do their jobs with a smile!
There are lots of ways to motivate your staff, but money is a great way of showing your team how you value them. A lot of stuff to do with work is the energy that people are bringing to that position, and the way you get paid is recognizing, "We value you". So make sure that you are paying people the right amount of money.
Give them some sort of bonus as well if they're doing well. It really, really counts for a lot, and you can get a lot more out of people if they feel that they're being valued. Recognition is also something that's key to motivating people.
People like to feel that their efforts have been noticed, so as well as paying them well, actually give them some form of recognition, whether it's verbally, whether you're actually putting something up in the office, whether you have some sort of employee of the month, or whatever it is. It doesn't matter how cheesy it is, but make sure that you do recognize when people are doing their job well, that they have some form of praise. Also, motivating somebody on an on-going basis can be quite draining, so try and make sure that the people that you're working with, including yourself, are doing things they absolutely love.
Let them feel inspired, so they're almost driving themselves rather than you continuously having to push that person. Motivating somebody normally requires external action, so you're having to continually externally push that person, but if they're more inspired, then you'll find that they actually drive themselves. They come to work because they want to and they're enjoying it, not just because they've got bills to pay.
Have some sort of incentive in place as well. So, I mentioned a bonus early on; it doesn't always have to be some sort of financial incentive. We've worked with companies where at the end of the week, if you do really well, they take you out, whether it's for a few drinks, or a meal, or something to just lift the morale and keep the team on a high.
So, have some sort of incentive in place, and I think really treat people with respect, treat people how you'd like to be treated, because it goes a long way if you can actually recognize that they're not just numbers, these are people, and they have their lives outside of work, and look at ways where you can show that you do respect them, and you do really value what they're bringing to the table. So I think if you've got all of those in place, as well, and you keep a positive mindset, and you make sure the environment is one that supports the organization in the best way possible and lifts spirits, there's no reason why you can't motivate your staff.
