How To Move In The Paintball Zone
Paintball is a team game that requires skill with a gun, tactical awareness and the ability to work as a team. Videojug went to Mayhem Paintballing in Abridge, Essex, to work out how to run, hide and attack in the gamezone....
Step 1: Communication
As the game starts you need to pay close attention to where the enemy is moving to because then you'll know where their fire is coming from. So use the opening moments of the game to scope out as many enemies as possible, and pass on that information to your team mates. Then you need to listen to their reports, and act on them. Communication can be tricky in the action-packed, high-adrenalin scenario that is a game of paintball, but all the experts say communicating as a team is the fastest way to victory.
Step 2: Using Barricades
If you are taking cover behind a barricade then the first thing to do is keep low - lower than you might think. Remember that a lot of killer hits are to the top of the gun, or the top of the face masks, as the extremities poke out when the player thinks they are safe.
If you are firing from behind a barricade, then move out from protection as little as possible. Use the angles of the barricade to protect you, and practice shooting with both hands, so you can stick out to the left, and to the right as you need to, without exposing your entire body.
Step 3: One on one Fire Fights
In this situation you need to be aggressive, and throw out a lot of fire, because it makes sense to be the one shooting. If a one on one situation opens up, try to control the fight, so your enemy is the one ducking for cover. That way you are at an advantage immediately because you can fire, and then move as quickly as possible to a different angle. Try not to let them see you move. Then you know where they are, but they don't know where you are. Now the next time they pop up, smoke them from your new position, they won't know what hit them!
Step 4: Dealing with enemy snipers
If you are hampered by an enemy sniper in a tricky position who keeps firing at you, you need to use two or more players to triangulate. This maneuver involves sending a big burst of fire towards them, and then sending a couple of players as far left and as far right as possible, to open up a clear shot of the sniper. This is a very good example of why you need to be communicating with your team. If you aren't talking, this sort of maneuver can never happen successfully.
Step 5: Shooting moving targets
Put a consistent line of fire towards an area where the enemy is running. Don't shoot at them, shoot at where they are going to be in a couple of seconds.
Good luck playing paintball.
