If you could think through various scenarios where you might cry, and think them through in advance, chances are you will diffuse the fear, the worry, the tension, and you may even feel more confident about them, because you've already played them through in your mind, so they will never be quite as intense in the real life scenario.
It's very useful to be self-aware and to know why you are crying. Sometimes, we cry because we are actually experiencing a completely different emotion but feel that we can't express that other emotion. That emotion is often anger, sadness, disappointment.
If we feel these other things in the scenario where we can't express them, it could be at work, or maybe socially, or even at home, then we might cover it up by crying. Crying is only a temporary solution, and it's better to deal with the real thing that underlies it.
If you can, it is a good idea to compartmentalize how you feel. In other words, if something bothers you and you feel that you are going to cry, separate it in your mind, time how you deal with those feelings with emotions. You don't have to show them there and then.
If you are at a meeting at work, it might not be appropriate, but you could cry if you wanted to, about, in a situation when you are at home with a friend or with a partner. It's knowing how to separate, knowing how to manage your feelings and your emotions. If you really are on the verge of crying, a useful tip is to breathe in slowly, and also look upwards.
That can help you stop the crying. By looking upwards, you are taking your mind away from what's happening right in front of you at that moment. You are also releasing the muscular tension around your chest and your throat.
At the same time, you are also causing the water in your eyes to go backwards rather than to sip forwards and over your eyelids. And finally, if anyone is watching you, it just looks like you are thinking about something. And those are the tips for how to not cry. .
