No more popping the cork, spilling half the bottle, and losing all the bubbles! Champagne is for those special occasions so learn how to open a bottle of Champagne the right way.

Step 1: Unwrap The Bottle

Pull the tab on the foil at the top of the Champagne bottle, and the foil will come right off, exposing the wire cage beneath.

Step 2: Uncage The Bubbly

Remove the wire cage from the top of the Champagne bottle by twisting the closure counterclockwise. Remember, while you're loosening the cage, keep a finger on the cork so that it doesn't fly out!

Step 3: Do The Twist

Keep your finger on the cork while you tilt the bottle to a 45 degree angle. This will keep the cork in until you're ready to remove it, and the Champagne from spilling out when you do remove the cork. When you're ready, hold the cork from the top and wiggle it gently until you feel it start to come out of the bottle. Do this very slowly; you want to keep the bubbles in the bottle! When the bottom of the cork approaches the top of the bottle, lift one corner of the cork to let the air out, then wiggle the cork out into your hand.

Step 4: Get Ready To Pour

Keeping the bottle at a 45 degree angle, pour a small amount of Champagne into your Champagne flute and give it a taste. Pronounce it "delicious" and get ready to pour yourself a full glass.

Step 5: Serve Your Champagne

Slowly pour your Champagne into your flute. Remember, keeping the pour slow keeps you from breaking the bubbles. Stop pouring when the glass is about two-thirds full, and enjoy!

This is how one would open a soda, let the gas out slowly. But to open champagne you simply need to put your fingers on it's bottom (up it's ass, so to speak). It will not foam and spill - guaranteed.

I have taught many people on how to pour wine or chapagne with out spilling a drop. The secret is the twist is in the wrist. As the glass almost gets full, twist your wrist about 1/4 turn toward you as you raise the bottle. Yes, it also works with bottled beer or even soda.

I didn't know you had to twist the bottle! Good to know. And, it's good to learn how to open a bottle because I'm always afraid of people popping the cork into someone's eye!

Total amateur! Twist the bottle not the cork. Most real champagnes don't have is handy 'tab' that he goes on about to remove th foil. PLUS it is customary NOT to taste champagne as one does with wine. If the wine waiter offers then a real expert waives the right to taste. A sparkling wine guy shouldn't attempt champagne videos :-)
