If depression has shown up in your life, there is a very good chance you want to do whatever you can to move through this time and get back to feeling whole. Let me give you some tips to show you how you can start to move out of this depressive scope you find yourself. One of the first keys to overcoming depression is to take small steps.
No matter how small, it is going to be a step in the right direction. And one of the key issues when we find ourselves in a depressive state is that we start to go down something of a spiral. Perhaps we lose touch with friends, perhaps we can't begin to eat, perhaps we just aren't able to do anything too long, perhaps we start to feel miserable about ourselves because we do not have any friends, and we want people to feel sorry for us.
An opportunity is to start to bust out of this spiral to start to come back up the spiral and the way to do that is to take small steps. Small steps of looking after you as an individual, I call that looking after the temple. It comes down to choosing to eat quality foods, choosing to bring some form of exercise into your life, starting to tone up your body.
This is also about taking some control over your sleep patterns. Maybe not sleeping too long, going out and getting some fresh air. Also, whenever you can, choose to have a little bit of fun.
Even if you feel detached from it, get out there and make it happen. Also, you want to bring, what I call it, some sort of spiritual practice into your life. Just something once a week.
It can be as simple as going for a walk in the park or meditation or tai chi, or swimming, or running, whatever your particular cup of tea is. Just bring something into your life. We are looking at making really small changes here.
The opportunity is to have an accumulation of these small changes to start to retune your physiology to saying, “No, I don't need to be in this dull and depressive state". The last little tip I will throw your way is that of acceptance. Look around you.
What is it that you are not accepting in your life right now? If you could move to a place of acceptance and this also is a great new way of starting to take your power back and choosing to have a defined way of life. Of course, to some people, a depressive condition is a very serious medical condition and you should always seek the advice of a medical doctor to find out if they can help you as well. But these kinds of little changes will also complement anything that they are asking you to do. .
