How To Pack For Your Holidays
Property and travel TV presenter Jasmine Harman shares her tips on packing a suitcase for your holiday. Get a variety of outfits in your suitcase with VideoJug's assistance in packing for your holiday.
-
Step 1:
-
Get Your Suitcase
-
Millions of you will be heading away for a beach break this summer. But deciding when and where you're going is the easy part. The big decision is what you're going to pack and how you're going to pack it.
Now, any fool can just buy a massive suitcase and chuck everything in, including the kitchen sink, but with my job I spend most of the year living out of a suitcase, so I'm going to teach you how to pack smart.
-
Step 2:
-
Be Realistic
-
It might sound obvious, but the first thing to remember is to be realistic about what you really need, and that will depend on the weather at your destination, what you're planning to do on holiday and, most importantly, how long you're going for.
-
Step 3:
-
Pack Your Basics
-
Flip-flops are brilliant because they take up virtually no space at all in your case and you'll wear those to death on holiday. So you just pop those down in the bottom.
Sarongs, also very handy, very versatile, don't take up any space at all. You can wear them, just take them down to the beach to lie on, so you won't be dragging a heavy towel around with you.
Bikinis, take two. You won't need more than two, believe me. Just make sure you rinse them out at night and you've always got one dry.
-
Step 4:
-
Double Up Your Clothing
-
Now, sundresses. This season we've got loads of gorgeous sundresses in all the shops. And they're really, really versatile, cause you can wear them in the day.
With a big sunhat, nice comfy pair of flip-flops and you can posh around day in that. Or, for the evening, put them with a nice glitzy pair of shoes, you know, a bit of bling, bit of nice fancy jewelry, and you've got a completely different outfit.
So what you want to do is make sure you're taking stuff that doubles up, you're not just going to be able to wear once. And that goes for shoes as well, you don't need a different pair of shoes for every single outfit.
-
Step 5:
-
Fold Your Clothes
-
A lot of people say rolling your clothes is the way for it when it comes to packing clothes. Now, I have to say, I think that's a load of rubbish cause it doesn't stop your clothes from getting creased. Nothing is going to stop your clothes from getting creased in your suitcase. And it also doesn't take up any less space. I think folding is just as good.
But my tip is, once you get there, hang your clothes in the bathroom while you're having a shower and the steam will make all the creases drop out.
-
Step 6:
-
Pack Your Toiletries
-
Okay, on to toiletries. Now, obviously sun protection, insect repellant are travel essentials. But for all your basics, so, hair care and skin care, just take travel-sized products, they're so much easier. Or, sashays, because once you've used them you can just chuck them away. But if you're anything like me you want more than just the basics, you want to pamper yourself while you're on holiday because you've got that bit more time. And I've been developing a range of spa products called Bolly Therapy Spa with Tesco's.
Now these are amazing products and they look gorgeous in your bathroom, but that weighs a ton, so that you don't want in your suitcase. Which is why we've launched these. So you've got all the same products in a travel size. You can really pamper yourself while you're on holiday and don't feel like you're missing out.
Makeup, all you need is literally that: tinted moisturizer, water-proof mascara, a clean blusher, a couple of lip glosses, you really don't want to look like you've overdone it on the beach or in the evening when you're on holiday.
So let's get this all packed. Okay, we're almost there.
-
Step 7:
-
Place Everything Intelligently
-
Now, if you've got any electrical items with you, don't forget to take your adapter. And pop those in the middle of your case with something on top of them, just in case the baggage handlers are a little bit rough.
Shoes, put those down at the bottom, they won't take up too much space.
And one of the best buys you can get is something like this, a big sunhat that you can squish, squash in your case, you don't have to take it on as hand luggage. When it comes out at the other end, it's still in perfect shape. So that is something really, really brilliant.
A few accesories, because they'll really make your outfit, and it can transform your outfit as well.
-
Step 8:
-
Weigh You Luggage
-
Camera, that's going in my hand luggage. And of course don't forget your passport and your money.
And you're pretty much good to go.
What I would do is weigh that on your bathroom scale to make sure you don't get stung with any nasty excess baggage charges, and have a very happy holiday.
Bon voyage.
