How To Paint An Architrave
Follow this painter's tips, step by step, just as if you were a professional, in order to have a neat and tidy-looking architrave at home.
The architrave is a bit of wood that surrounds the door frame. I'm going to show you how to paint that now. First of all, I'm going to lay the dust sheet closest to the wall as possible, so I don't get any paint on the carpet.
And because we're painting an architrave closest to the wall, I'm going to mask up the wall so that we don't get any paints on it. Most people don't like it if we get paint on the metal so we're going to mask the hinges as well. It's always important to wipe down between coats to provide a good key for the finished paint to lock into.
Otherwise, the paint will tend to chip off. Once you've rubbed down, you need to dust the surface off just to avoid getting any little bits in the paint. Now, the architrave is ready to paint.
First of all, dip your paint brush in the paint, get a little bit on the end of the brush and wipe any excess off on the side of the kettle and then start painting at the top of the architrave. You want to paint on, not going towards the edge first. You're going to get much of the brush on it and push it into the edges with your brush afterwards so you get a nice tidy line.
Don't force the paint too much as it won't cover properly. When the first bit of paint's gone, dip your brush in the pot again. And that's how to paint architraves. .
