How To Paint Skin

So, how to paint people? I'm going to give you a theoretical tip. This is a technique that has been used in early renaissance time, late medieval period, and it's quite beautiful and easy to do. Before you start depicting the color of the human skin, paint the whole parts of the body that you're painting, paint them green.

It shouldn't be a greyish green, it should actually be a very muted olive green. Now, paint the green, let it dry. To that, we call verdicchio, which is an Italian word which means greenish.

As soon as it's dry, you can start painting the flesh tone on top of that green. In some little parts, allow the green to show through and it will look like veins. So if you paint this way, by using the verdicchio technique, your skin on the painting will look as translucent and life-like.
