Step 1: Pay in Advance

Most companies will accept a deposit in your account to cover future expenses or create an automatic payment schedule in association with your bank. Call your utilities services to find out what their policies are. If you pay rent, consider giving your rent check to your landlord early but post-dating it to when the rent is actually due.

Step 2: Go Online

If paying in advance is not an option, consider online banking, most banks today offer online bill paying. Check your bank's website and set up an automatic payment schedule. To pay your bill online, you'll need the payees address and your account number. You will also want to inform your service provider you'll be using online bill payments. Be aware: certain service providers have special requirements for online bill pay.

Step 3: In Someone We Trust

Another way to pay your bills is to set up a new, separate bank account with a checkbook and ask a friend to pay bills for you while you're away. Usually, this is also the friend who you've asked to collect your mail so they will already be receiving your bills. Make sure you include a list of bills they can expect to pay and when they should pay them.
