How To Perform A Hang Five
A Hang Five is a nose wheelie which is performed whilst balanced on the front pegs of a BMX. It can be tricky, but is a stylish BMX trick that can really impress. The hang Five is demonstrated here by Jason Forde of the UK's Team Extreme.
Step 1: Starting position
Start your hang five by rolling forward at a moderate speed with the peddles vertical. Gently place the upper foot back onto the rear peg. Once the foot is firmly in place, move the other foot to the front peg. Make sure your feet are securely placed.
Step 2: Raising the rear
The next part should be performed slowly and gently. Lean gradually over the handle bars, whilst at the same time transferring your weight from the rear foot to the front foot. As you do this push forward on the handle bars very gently.
If done correctly the rear wheel will lift off the ground.
Keep your eyes focused on your front axel at all times.
Step 3: Keeping balanced
As the rear wheel rises, the seat should rest just under your behind: do not sit on it just keep it stable between your legs.
As this happens, slowly move the rear foot off it's peg to hang by your side nearly touching the floor. Keep it loose and under control, moving back and forth as necessary to provide balance.
If you are falling forward, straighten the body and put the foot forward. Search for a "sweet spot", so that the foot is virtually still.
Step 4: Riding Out
To ride out simply bring the bars into you by bending the arms, and gently place the hanging foot back on the rear peg. Once you are steady, you can slowly bring the feet back to the peddles.
