Hi. My name's Amy, and I'm a wedding and event planner. I have planned events, mainly specializing in weddings.

However, I have planned events from Christmas to corporate, and I'm going to give you some tips that I hope will help for you to plan events in the future. I'm going to talk to you about how to plan a bridal shower, or hen party. First thing you need to consider is if you are planning this on behalf of the bride-to-be, to make sure that what you plan is something that she will appreciate.

So if you know that she's not a big fan of heights, don't organize for her to go sky-diving. She won't appreciate it. You also want to make sure that what you organize, especially if it is a weekend away, or a big night out is organized with plenty of time before the wedding.

You want to make sure that she has time to recover afterwards, before the big day. So it's best to keep the celebrations the night before the wedding reasonably quiet, and quite tame. You might want to organize a traditional night out, but you might want to deviate from that and do something a little bit different.

You could organize a weekend or a week away. It would be quite nice for everyone to get away for a little bit before the wedding starts, sort of as a second honeymoon but before the wedding. You might want to organize to go for a nice afternoon tea at a nice venue.

It's quite often to find nice venues that offer discounts for you to go, and do that when booked on online websites. You could also organize to have a spa day, which again is very relaxing, and a good chance for everyone to have a good natter and a chat and a catch-up. You might want to organize for everyone to go and partake in a class.

This could be quite fun and also give everyone new skills that they can learn. You might want to organize for everyone to go and watch a theatre show, which is always a nice night out for everyone, but keeping everything reasonably tame. It would be a good idea to organize for some novelty ware, but if you know that the bride is not one for making a big show, try to keep this reasonably tame.

You don't want to completely embarrass her. You want her to have a good time, although having a bit of a laugh. A nice idea to do something a little bit different, would be to organize for all the attendees to bring a novelty gift to put together to make a ‘good wife kit'.

Maybe something like a rolling pin, or furry handcuffs: something that she'll find funny, that she can then put away in a drawer to laugh about at a later time. It might be a nice idea to organize a quiz, so to speak to the groom prior to the hen night and ask him questions, and then ask the bride the same questions, and organize that whatever questions are answered wrong come with a forfeit. You might want to organize dares if you're organizing a night out, just to add that little bit extra to make it a bit different from a normal night out, dares that each person has to partake in, as well as the bride herself.

It might be a nice idea to speak to her close family and friends and find some photos and maybe some juicy stories that you can then bring up whilst you're all out. You need to also consider whether this will be a surprise or not, whether you will completely surprise her or whether she will be aware that you will all be meeting up for her hen night, whether you keep what you'll actually be doing as a surprise. I hope this has helped in planning a bridal shower, or hen party.
