Hi, my name is Amy and I'm a wedding and event planner. I have planned events mainly specializing in weddings; however I have planned events from Christmas to corporate. And I'm going to give you some tips that I hope will help for you to plan events in the future.

Hi, I'm going to talk to you about how to plan a costume party. First thing you need to consider is the theme you're going to be going with. You might want to arrange something that is going to be quite original; maybe something like school sports, or a second decade, possibly what you wanted to be when you grow up, or if you're going to be attending as couples, maybe famous couples throughout history.

You also want to consider what kind of party you want to have, whether this will be a night out that's going to be held at a venue like a bar or a club, whether you want to organize a formal dinner and dance, or whether it be more of an informal reception. You'll also need to consider what it's for. Is it for a birthday party? Is it for just a general night out? So take that into consideration.

You might want to incorporate a theme into the food that you will be providing. For example, if you wanted to do something like "What you wanted to be when you grew up", you might want to have jelly and ice cream as part of the food, just to incorporate that childish theme into it. Obviously, buying a costume will cost you money, so if you can, arrange to use clothing and things you already have at home, or you can make your own costume, then this will help you to save money.

If you have a costume already lying around at home that you can work your theme around, then try to do this, as it will save you from having to go out and buy a new costume. You need to make sure that you give your guests plenty of notice about the party to make sure that they have plenty of time in order to organize their costumes. You might want to make sure that your invites reflect the theme that you are going to be going forward with, with the fancy dress.

You might want to think about the venue that you are going to be having the party at. Try and find a venue that reflects the themes, so if you are going for something maybe more like "1950's", you might want to find a venue that suits that. If you were going for maybe a theme of "Grease", you might want to organize that at an old-style bowling alley, for example.

If you are going to get a venue, you will need to decorate it, and make it suitable for the theme that you've picked. If you're going to be choosing a movie as your theme, you might want to have the soundtrack playing in the background for people just to get everybody in that theme's mood. I hope this has helped for planning a costume party.
