Hi, my name's Amy and I'm a wedding and event planner. I have planned events mainly specializing in weddings. However, I have planned events from Christmas to corporate, and I'm going to give you some tips that I hope will help for you to plan events in the future.

I'm going to help you plan a luau. First thing you need to organize is the location that you're going to have your party. Ideally, this should be outside, if you can organize this at a beach it would be ideal.

Otherwise, where there is a pool or you could always organize a paddling pool if you don't have access to either of these things. Obviously, it has very, very striking theme to it with lots of colors so it's good to get people to incorporate this into their attire for the day. Having everyone dress in grass skirts, Hawaiian shirts or bikinis, so ideally, a summer day would be ideal for this as people won't be wearing a lot of clothes so it would be nice for them to be warm.

You'll want organize maybe a barbecue that can be done outside which would be good in the way of keeping the theme going. Having things like punches and cocktails with novelty umbrellas and novelty glass is always a good idea. You'll want to keep bright colors and have sparklers and lanterns.

Make sure you have plenty of lighting though candles and lanterns for later on in the evening so that people can stay outside once night falls. You might want to organize for flower garlands for everybody so as they arrive, they are handed a flower garland just to keep that idea going. Another idea would be to have drinks served in coconut cups.

You could also have some makeshift coconut bikini tops which would be quite a novel idea, especially if you get the men wearing them. You might want to organize for someone to come in and teach everyone belly dancing. You could have somebody actually doing a performance of this, or having everyone getting involved which would be a good idea for everyone to have a little bit of a difference to the party.

I hope this has helped you to plan a luau.
