How To Plan A Surprise Birthday Party: A professional event planner lays out the steps you should follow when planning a surprise party, so you don't forget anything important!
Hi. My name's Amy, and I'm a wedding and event planner. I have planned events, mainly specializing in weddings.
However, I have planned events from Christmas to corporate, and I'm going to give you some tips that I hope will help for you to plan events in the future. Today, I'm going to talk to you about how to plan a surprise birthday party. The first thing that you'll need to do is send invites out to guests.
Make sure that the invites that you're sending are to friends of the person that the party is intended for, rather than your friends. You also need to make sure that you're very discreet about inviting people, and ensure that everybody knows that it is a surprise, and to not let on to the intended birthday person that there is a surprise party planned. You need to arrange whether this is going to be hosted at a venue or at your home.
If you are going to organize this at a venue, it's probably a good idea to organize this in a private room. That way, it will be even more of a surprise when they walk in to find the room filled with their friends and family. You need to also make sure that the place that you're going to organize the party at is a convenient place, somewhere that you can easily make an excuse to get that person there to.
So taking them to somewhere that they're not aware of might arouse suspicion, which obviously, you don't want to do. You need to make sure that guests arrive early, and park outside, so that there are no clues of what's going on for the intended birthday person. Have everyone hide, possibly turn out the lights so that when they arrive, everyone can jump out, turn the lights on, and shout, “Surprise!” It might be a good idea to have a video camera to capture them being surprised, maybe party poppers.
If it is a birthday, it would be a good idea to organize a cake that can then be presented to them, obviously lit with candles. You might want to organize for people to arrange presents, either individually or as a group. If everyone is putting together for a group present, it might be a nice idea to organize a tribute band of their favorite act.
You might also want to have some novelty birthday ware: large badges, hats, etc. It might be a nice idea to create a theme, possibly fancy dress, maybe having everyone dressing up in the decade of the birthday person's birth. Obviously, you will want to also make sure that everyone sings “Happy Birthday.
” So that might be a good time, once everyone's yelled surprise, in order to do that. I hope this has all helped in organizing a surprise birthday party.
