Hi, I'm Rick from The Music Workshop Company. I'm going to show you some tips on how to drum. I am now going to show you a simple jazz drum beat.

You'd start off with a high hat. The high hat clicks on two and four. So it would be one, TWO, three, FOUR.

Now, next your right hand, on the ride cymbal. You need to think of this in your head: "ting, ting-ta-ting, ting-ta-ting, ting-ta-ting, ting-ta-ting". That will be: "one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four".

Adding the high hat, remember, on two and four. What you need to remember when you're playing jazz rhythms or a jazz drum beat is that the emphasis is on two and four, "one, TWO, three, FOUR. one, TWO, three, FOUR." We are going to add a rim click.

This is going to occur on beat four. So, just the high hat and the rim click, that will be "one, TWO, three, FOUR, one, TWO, three, FOUR." We have the symbol.

We are going to add the bass drum now. The bass drum can do one of two different things. It can either play on one and three or very lightly can play on one, two, three, four.

I am going to do both, so we are going to do the one and three first. It will be, one. Bass drum playing on one, two, three, four. .
