How To Play Old Maid
In this video, Barry Martin here of the International Club will show you how to play Old Maid. You'll learn the basic rules of a fun game which the whole family can play.
So, let's look at a game called Old Maid. Great family game. I play it with my kids all the time.
They love playing it. Very simple, easy to pick up! Stand a pack of cards, 52 in a deck. What you want to do is find the four queens.
You need to take one of the queens out and move the other three away. Okay. Now, you add this queen to the deck, the queen being the old maid.
So, you shuffle the deck, quick shuffle. I'm not going to go into that too but you can get the idea. Quick shuffle and you deal every card out, every card, to the players that are involved.
So let's say, there's five players playing. So I'm not going to go for it but I'll just put some packs out here quickly showing some hands. Now, what you do first in old maid, you're looking to make pairs.
You're looking to make pairs in your hand. So, look at this hand. We've got jacks.
They go in the middle. There's none there. Quickly go through this one.
Let's find the old maid, basically. Hopefully, we dealt them out. Hopefully, it's in this one.
Right so. I've dealt. I've got the old maid.
So, first to the left of the dealer, will offer his cards to the person to his left, not showing him the cards but offering like that and your player next to your left will take a random card out of your pack, put it in his pile. He will check if he's got a pair or an old maid and he'll do the same to his left and then so on and so forth until all the pairs are in the middle and one person is left with old maid and that person will be the loser. So once again, the basics, take three queens out, leaving one queen in the pack.
Deal all the cards out to every player involved. You can have probably ten or twelve players if you want everybody to play but it works well with three, four, five, etcetera, and you make pairs out of your hand. Throw the pairs in the middle, and then you take a card from the first person to the left of the dealer will take a card of their person to the left and then so on and so forth until all the pairs are in the middle and one person is left with the queen.
That's the basics. .
