A drum tutor explains how to improve your drumming technique by learning how to play paradiddles on the drums.
Paradiddles are important; this is a combination of single strokes and double strokes. Try practicing them without accents and then with accents. Here’s a basic Paradiddle, it goes right left right right left right left left. Now there are different versions of the Paradiddle, all ticking the same sticking pattern and starting in a different place. So for instance the backwards Paradiddle or the inverted Paradiddle would start on the double stroke. A double Paradiddle is a 6th note sticky, there’s two accents in there. You could also play it through sixteenth notes. There’s also something called the Paradiddle diddle which is right left right right left. Let’s think in triplets, you can accent the first notes.
