If you ever wanted to play poker but don't know the rankings of cards and hands, this VideoJug film is for you. This film guides you through the tree of hands, from the lowest ranking single ace to the top scoring royal flush.
Okay, let's have a look at the very basics of poker. Poker, in its purest form, is a 5 card game and you have to make the best possible hand from the five cards you were given, either in the hand, on the board, etc. I'm sure you are going to see on the VideoJug slide.
So, let's have a look in the rankings of poker as we go. Lowest of the low is ace high, no pair, no flushes, no straights, just five random cards as they were, not matching. Not usually very good.
Next is one pair, one pair being two cards that match. So, here have two fives. Next is two pair.
So we got here, in this particular situation, queens and sevens. Next up, the tree, trips, or three of a kind, which means three nines, and throw out the random cards. Next is a straight.
A straight would be five cards in a row. That would be ace to ten, ace to five, or five-six-seven-eight-nine, that kind of situation that are not the same suit. Then, you got five cards of the same suit.
That's called a flush. Now, we get up to the higher, much more interesting hands. Now, we got a full house.
A full house is three of a kind and one pair. Okay, three of a kind and one pair, that's a full house. Then, you got four of a kind or quads, which is obviously four sixes, four sevens, etc.
And top of the tree, don't get it very often, but if you do, make sure you bet very hard, is a straight flush, and this Broadway as it is called, the Broadway royal flush, is the top of the tree. So, that's five cards of the same suit in order. And there are your hand rankings.
Basically, you can play around the kitchen table with your friends, whether there be two, three, four, five, you can play thirteen or fourteen players if you so desire. And probably the easiest thing to do is to have a look at our Texas Hold 'Em video to play the purest and most exciting form. But basically, you have the pack of cards, 52 in a deck, have some chips or match sticks or tokens, whatever you want to play, or even cash and you can deal cards out to your players and try to make the best five card hard you can possibly make.
Do remember, sometimes you don't have to show your cards. It is not really about the hand you have, it is about the hand you appear to have while you are betting. You can bluff.
And that quite basically is how you play poker for beginners. .
