Hi. I'm Rick from The Music Workshop Company. I'm going to show you some tips on how to drum.

I'm going to show you now how to play a simple Reggae Drum beat. A rim click and a base drum beat occur on Beat 2 and 4. 1, 2, 3, 4.

1, 2, 3, 4. The Hi-hat played with the right hand, the emphasis is on 'and'. And what I mean by that is '1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND 1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND without me counting.

So the 1,2,3,4, are quieter than all of the 'AND's which are louder. So it will be AND 1, AND 2, AND 3, AND 4 AND 1,AND 2, AND 3 AND 4, AND. When you do this, make sure you are always counting either in your head or mouthing it.

AND 1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND 1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND. When you're feeling confident, try put it altogether. So you've got the rim click, base drum together on beats 2 and 4.
