So let's have a look at studs, stud poker. We've already spoken a little bit about seven card stud, you can watch the video here on Videojug. Five card stud is kind of the original variant of poker back in the Wild West days, you know, Bill Hickock and the Dead Man's Hand and stuff was five card stud, basically.

There are two variations of this. You can play full deck, 52 cards in the pack, stud, or what you see in a lot of the early London games in casino's and speelers and stuff like that, were strip deck games where basically, you would take out all of the cards below eight, so you'd only get the higher cards in the pack, making that the hands value a little bit higher. For this purpose, we're going to deal just standard five card stud.

Like all stud games, you get a card that is not shared down to each player. In this particular situation, we got three players and the first card you would get is one card face-up. Like most poker games, again, this is a high variant, and you're looking to make the biggest five card hand possible.

Again, it's card three, card four, and card five would be down and then we try to make the biggest hand possible. In five card stud, it's very difficult; a pair is a very big hand! So, as we see, we've dealt three hands out here, and we've only made one pair - a pair of aces which is a great pair but this is the best hand we can make. That's why you would usually play this in the strip deck variety, but in this variant, that's a big hand. And that are the basics of five card stud! .
