This two minute video provides tips on avoiding boredom when practicing your banjo and recommendations on good banjo playing posture.
Okay now, after having shown you all these right hand roles and left hand techniques, I'd like to say a few general things about playing and practicing the banjo. I think it's always important to play songs that you want to play and keep your practice or your playing interesting for yourself, so that you don't lose interest because it's getting boring.
So try listening to new music.
There's especially in this day and age so much music, so much different music, which uses the five-string banjo and isn't limited to bluegrass and country music. Try and find new songs that you like to play and even try to play songs that don't have banjos in them on your banjo. Maybe you can come up with your own version of the song that you can play around the campfire on your banjo, and absolutely blow everyone's mind.
Why not try the next Lady Gaga song on your banjo?
As with practicing and techniques, what you want to look out for is always know where you're at and don't speed things up too much. So start slowly and focus on the quality of your sound and playing rather than speeding up prematurely.
And also make sure that your posture is okay, and your back is straight as possible.
And what's very important with the banjo that I've noticed is that you don't bring your right shoulder forward too much because this would put a lot of tension on the muscles in your shoulder and might lead to long term injury. So try to stay nice and relaxed and find a position that's comfortable for you and your banjo.
