How To Poach Fruit

Poached fruit is a quick and incredibly tasty dish, and a great way of getting in one of your five daily fruit portions. Tiffany Goodall, rising star of the culinary world, is going to show us her version of this simple classic.

Step 1: You will need

  • 2 Pears, or a fruit of your choice
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 drops of vanilla essence
  • cream for serving

Step 2: Fruit

Peel the fruit, slice into 2 and deseed.

Step 3: Syrup

Bring a pan of water to the boil, then add 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 2 drop of vanilla essence. Put the lid on the pan and bring back to the boil.

Step 4: Poach

Carefully spoon the pear halves into the boiling water and leave to poach for 15 minutes. Check the pears are soft by sticking a knife into them, leave to poach for a little longer if they feel too hard.

Spoon the poached pears into a serving bowl, along with some of the syrup. Serve with cream
