How To Polish Sterling Silver
A goldsmith demonstrates how easy it is to polish your own sterling silver at home in this VideoJug video. The hardest part is the polishing, but you will find the results are worth it. It just takes a little household ammonia, dish soap and water to make a soak that will get the dirt and grease out from your sterling jewelry pieces just as well as an ultrasonic might.
Hi, I'm Cherie Birks from Cool Diamond in London, Hatton Garden, and I'm a goldsmith here, and I've been a goldsmith for nearly ten years. And I trained for that in Australia. Currently, we sell diamonds mounted in platinum, 18 karat white gold, and 18 karat yellow gold.
I'm here to demonstrate polishing and resizing of rings and diamond jewelry. You can do this at home by also having yourself a bath of warm water, dish detergent and cloudy ammonia. And you will just soak that, just degrease it using a toothbrush.
Get in to any gaps where there might be dirt, or whatever. Give it a good rinse in warm water, and dry it with a soft cotton cloth again. You can actually buy ultrasonic's as well for high use.
And then we're going to, a polishing cloth which replicates the polishing process which I just showed you. And you just rub over that in the one direction. It takes a little while to do.
But it does come up. And that's how you polish silver sterling jewelry. .
