How To Power Kite

Hello, I'm Thomas from the Kitesurf Centre. Today, I'm just going to show you a couple of tips on how to fly a kite and how to get into these brilliant sports of kite flying. Okay, I'm now going to show you how to power kite now.

So, power kiting is basically using just a slightly larger kite that has a bit more power and that's how that sort of sport gets its name. So, go a bit of more power as you get more fun and you're going to get pulled around a bit more so it's really good. I'm just going to go through the handles that we use to control our power kite.

So, most power kites are going to have four lines, so you fly them on these handles. As you got the front lines, as you can see, I've got these, again, towards my hands up and they're going up to the front of the kite and we've also got back lines or break lines going into the other ends of the handles. The kite's basically flying on its front lines all the time with the break lines slightly loose.

We can use our break lines to land the kite and also to just speed up the turns. So first of all, we're just going to go through how to turn this kite and how to move it around the sky. So if I want to stay at right, I'm going to pull with my right hand and push my left hand, and left's the opposite.

So you see, it's a bit bigger kite and I've got a bit of pull come in once I started to move it around. So, left for left, right for right. So I've showed you the power and fun we're going to have with these kites, the most important we need to know is about the safety.

We don't want to get hurt because you can see there's lots of power and you can easily get dragged off into any nasty objects. So with these kites, we have these things that I've got around my wrist, they're called kite killers. They are attached to the break lines which means if it is all going wrong and you're getting dragged off when you don't want to be and you've lost control, you can just let of the handles.

It's going to pull the kite by its break lines, collapse it from the trailing edge and completely kill the power and it flocks to the floor and then you can pick yourself up. So, I'm just going to give you a quick demonstration of that, there you go. I haven't pulled at all.

The kite's crashing down and really nicely and it's all under control. Kite's on the floor now and that is all nice and safe. That's how to power kite. .
