Before beginning law school, there are several things you can do which will increase your confidence and give you some ideas as to what to expect from your studies. First, try to gain a basic understanding of the court structure in England and Wales.
You can do this easily by reading the law section of the daily broadsheet. This will also give you a sense of high profile cases and controversies. And it will give you the important idea that very often what is news-worthy as a legal aspect to it.
Second, visit a court local to you. This will give you a sense of what it is that lawyers actually do. The vast majority of hearings are open for the public to sit and watch.
It may be useful to speak to a lawyer you may know or to have a work experience at a law firm or barristers chambers. Your school or college should be able to assist you in finding such placements. Third, if your institution has provided a preparatory reading list or an introductory pack, you should make sure that you're familiar with it.
Finally, in becoming a lawyer it is important to continue developing those skills that are necessary for practice.
