How To Prevent A Hangover
Ever got carried away and drank too much? Sometimes it's good to have fun and let your hair down but the hangover is really terrible. here are a few tips to prevent a hangover.
Hello there. My name is Dr. Gemma Newman and I'm a GP based in London.
Today I'd like to give you a few great tips to improve your general health and prevent a variety of problems. This video is all about how to prevent a hangover. Now, the most obvious answer to that question is to avoid excessive drinking but if you do want to let your hair down then I've got a few tips to help you feel good the morning after.
Alcohol dehydrates you not only because it's a diuretic which means it makes you pee a lot, but also because when you are metabolizing it you produce lactic acid which also dehydrates your body, so anything that you can do to keep you well hydrated, not only will it help you not to get drunk so fast but it will also help prevent a hangover. So with that in mind it would be important to drink a glass of water between each alcoholic drink. This way you would help to reduce the speed of absorption and hopefully improve your alcohol tolerance.
Another thing to do is to drink a big glass of water at bedtime and keep it by your bed, if you wake up in the night feeling parched then you can just have a drink and hopefully give your body the fluid that it needs and along the same vein, to reduce the speed of absorption of the alcohol it might be worth having a big dinner before you go out for your drinks and also if you try to have mixes with your drinks then the ones that are non-carbonated so basically things like orange juice as opposed to coke or lemonade will also help to reduce the speed of absorption of the alcohol in your system. Now what about the drinks themselves? As a general rule I would suggest having no more than 3 drinks in 2 hours and definitely no more than 5 drinks in one night, this is a much better way of preventing a hangover because you haven't overdosed to start wit. Sticking with one type of drink is also worth doing; variety is not the spice of life where alcohol is concerned – now, light liquors are generally more effective in terms of the hang-over than dark ones so red wine, whisky, and brandy are particular culprits for that concern.
Also, you might want to try a more dilute form of alcohol, so for example beer over whisky; depending – of course – on how much beer you actually consume. Another thing is to know your limits. Now this will vary, again, on how much food you're drinking.
You should know your body type and how much is good for you. My last tip in trying to prevent a hang-over is an important one. Please don't drink when you're feeling unhappy because I guarantee that alcohol will not make you feel better and you're also probably more likely to experience the effects of a hang-over the morning after. Now, the regrets the morning after will definitely ruin the night before so I hope that this tips will help you and enjoy yourselves and have a good night!.
