You love your garden, but, unfortunately, a motley assortment of pests feel the same way. Learn how to take some easy steps to protect your precious garden from bugs and rodents.

Step 1: Routine Inspection

Routinely inspect your plants, checking for signs of insect damage. Early detection is best, and lets your plants know that you care.

Step 2: Pick Them Off

With your hands, remove unwanted bugs. Maybe wear some gloves in case they bite.

Step 3: Keep Your Plants Clean

Keep your plants clean. There is nothing more attractive to pests than the smell of rotting plants. Remove any dead or dying leaves.

Step 4: Barricade

To minimize the intrusion of rodents, use a wire or mesh barricade to keep them out. Make sure the barricade is large enough for the plant to continue to grow within it.

Step 5: Poison Them

If nothing else is working, pesticides are poisonous to bugs, but can be just as poisonous to you and your plants, so be careful. Be sure to research which pesticides and applications are best for your plants. Proceed with caution!

I agree about ladybugs there are also certain species of ants that work well with pest control not all mind you some will eat the plants. remember whatever bug is the culprit nature made another bug to take care of it. got moles int eh yard or garden all you need it a metal stake some string and a pie tin the vibration from these will drive the moles off your property.

A better method would be to plant the appropriate partner plants around to keep unwanted pests away. Also, you could use ladybugs to eat aphids, etc. And let's not forget plain old soap and water is a great pest control and is non-toxic to people. I really wouldn't suggest poison, not if you are planning to eat anything from your garden.
