-
Step 1:
-
Apply Sunscreen liberally
-
This is the first and most obvious step to prevent the sun from damaging your skin. For reliable protection, use sunscreen and lip balm with an SPF of 30 or higher.
-
Step 2:
-
Wear A Hat
-
A wide-brimmed hat can provide sufficient coverage from the sun on all sides of the head and neck.
-
Step 3:
-
Cover Up
-
For those balmy summer days where a turtleneck won't do, find some loose clothing made from a tight weave to keep the light from penetrating. See-through clothing is also UV-through clothing, and when some fabrics are wet, they can become more translucent.
-
Step 4:
-
Protect Your Clothing
-
UV blockers can now be used on your clothing to prevent sunlight penetration. Put a load of clothes you want to protect in the washer along with a UV additive you can find in the detergent aisle at your local supermarket, crafts store, or linens outlet.
-
Step 5:
-
Get Made In The Shade
-
Light reflects everywhere, even into shady outdoor spots underneath trees, but try to avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. If you are at the beach or poolside, the reflection of the water will intensify the effects of the sunlight and UV rays, so try to stay in shade away from the water.
-
Step 6:
-
Don't Sunbathe
-
A suntan is your body's reaction to prevent more of the damage you've already caused by trying to get a suntan.
