How To Put On A Condom
A condom is the only form of protection which will both help stop the spread of STIs and prevent pregnancy. You should use a condom every time you have sex - this film will show you how to put on a condom.

Open the packet

Begin by carefully opening the packet. Tearing the packet open with your teeth while growling like a tiger might seem tempting, but don't do it. You could damage the condom in the process.

Position

If you have one, pull back your foreskin before putting the condom on. Unroll the condom slightly to find which is the right way round. Before applying, squeeze the tip of the condom so there's no air trapped in the end. Trapped air can cause the condom to split.

Roll

Roll the condom all the way down to the base of the penis. If you've pulled your foreskin back, push it forward once the condom is on. This will let the foreskin move without breaking the condom. You're ready to go!

You may find it helpful - and not unpleasant - to add a drop of lubricant before play begins. This may help the condom stay in place and reduce the chance of it breaking. If you are using lubricant you should only used water-based lubricant especially designed for use during sex. Baby oil, Vaseline and skin lotions can damage the latex in the condom and cause it to split. If you must use oil-based lubricant, you can use condoms made of polyurethane, although these are more expensive.

Check occasionally to make sure the condom is still in place. If it slips off or splits during sex, you should withdraw immediately, wash yourself, and replace with a new condom.

Doubling up

Some people are tempted to use two condoms at once, thinking that doubling up will double the protection. Don't do this. The two condoms will rub against one another, and the increased friction will make them more likely to split. Also, never use a male condom and a female condom at the same time, for the same reason.

When you're done

Withdraw from your partner while the penis is still hard, holding the condom at the base of your penis so that the semen doesn't spill. Remove the condom and dispose of it by wrapping it in tissue and putting it in the rubbish. Never put condoms down the toilet. You need to use a new condom every time you have sex.
