Putting on a wetsuit is not as easy as some may believe. There are two major suit types: the shorty and the full suit. There are also some tips and pointers that are critical to ensure that you have the optimum fit. It's important to try on as many suits as possible so that you can see what works for you. In this video, you will learn how to put on a wetsuit as well as tips to achieve the optimum fit.
Hi there. My name is Keith. I run the Princes Shop.
I've been selling wetsuits now for about 20 years. Now, I'm going to give you some tips on trying on a wetsuit, make it really easy. Start with a shorty.
This is really always the easiest suit. What you do is unzip the suit. On Oneil, you've got the little velcro tab here.
It's always an issue. It gets caught up with everything. So if you tab that off, it stays in place.
What you then do, roll the suit down. Makes it nice and easy, you've got a nice big hole to get into. One leg in, then the other one and then pull it up around the waist.
Once it's in, pull it right up around the crotch, around the waist area before you try to get the top section on. Because it's rolled down it makes it very easy then to just roll the suit up. Slip one arm in, then the other arm in and then grab on the tab.
It's always better if you got a buddy. It takes the stress off of the zip. Just one pull zips him up.
And the velcro is still nicely tabbed off so it hasn't snagged the suit which always on this model makes it really bubbly and horrible after a little while. Tab him off, tuck it in place. Make sure you don't have it too tight around the neck.
Two veins you need to take into consideration, if you put too much stress on these you can pass out. So not too tight, just nice and easy around the neck. A couple of places that you need to look at; around the lower section of the back, here is a critical area.
Because if this doesn't fit in the lower back so this section here, it has a hollow that you can push in and out like my t-shirt, it's not a good fit. You'll get water collecting there and that's a point around your kidneys you're going to get very cold. So if the suit doesn't fit nice and snug there, then there's an issue, try another size on.
Going to the full suit, it's the same principle. Again, tab it off, roll it down. But for full suit, we've got a little secret weapon: plastic bag.
Pop the plastic bag on your foot and your feet will slide down through the legs really easy. So there's not an issue. But that hole there it's pretty small.
It needs to be snug and you can guarantee your foot is going to be much bigger than that. So with the plastic bag on one on each foot. Again, same principle.
Slide him on up around the crotch, around the waist, and then put the upper half on. It's pretty much the same as the shorty, but it's the plastic bag that really makes life easy. Tab him off, same issue.
Check the back. Another piece to check is this section here because if you bend over and there's all bagginess here, once again, the suit is too small. Often, if you're a size 10, say in ladies, with these new suits because the material now is so flexible, you can often get down into a smaller size which believe me, most women love.
And that's just a quick advice of putting a wetsuit on. But again, try as many on as possible. Get the optimum fit. .
