How to put together a modelling portfolio. Now, over the 14 years since I've started modelling, I can tell you that I've seen some of the most terrible modelling portfolios. What a lot of you girls are doing is when you come from your local region, you may have paid a local photographer to take photos of you, because your mum, your parents, your friends, your family, your boyfriend have told you you're good enough to model.

And a lot of times some of you will be. What you need to make sure of is, local photographers, often their photos aren't good enough for London. If you want to be a model, the best thing you can do is come straight down to a London model agency.

Sit and meet them, normally it's between 10 and 12 some of the days in the week, so find out the top agencies, and then just walk around. You just need Polaroid snaps. You do not need anything more than that.

Once you're signed to an agency, your model agency will put together a good portfolio for you. Sometimes, less is more. I've looked at books and I've seen too many photos that are too similar from the same shoot.

Everybody can tell, “Oh, that was from the same shoot,” when that's from the same shoot because your hair and makeup are virtually the same, lighting the same, photographer style the same. What you need to do if you're going to start off in the industry is have about 10 pictures and make sure two every couple of photos are from different shoots. You need to make sure you look versatile.

You need to have photos that are darker lighting, maybe brighter lighting. Some that are a bit candy bright, some that are of course a bit more mystical and a bit more mysterious. So you just need to show that you are really versatile and you have a different look.

Sometimes, it's really good to show maybe you've got short hair, long hair, dark hair, blonder hair, darker hair. If you ever look at my modelling portfolio online, I can tell you that my pictures, a lot of people have always said, doesn't even look like me. And I'd agree, sometimes I look at them and think that was a phase I was going through.

So try and have a really versatile book, but don't worry about it. You do not need, if you're a brand new model, you do not need to have a perfect book. We know that you're new.

We know that you're about to approach a job on a photographer with who you are. And often, just that little Polaroid picture is enough. So just don't be shy, just show somebody what you've got.

Don't try too hard because that'll just be a big no-no. Good luck! .
