How To Put Your Mail On Hold
Don't let mail pile up at your home while you're travelling. VideoJug shows you how to put your mail on hold during your vacation.
-
Step 1:
-
Pick Your Dates
-
Sit down and decide when you need to have your postal service stopped and the first day you want to receive mail again. Those will be your start and end dates. You must also decide whether you want all your mail delivered to you the day you get back or if you'll pick it up at the Post Office.
-
Step 2:
-
Go Online
-
There are several ways to place your mail on hold. Conveniently, you can use the U.S. Postal Services' website at usps.com, and follow the simple instructions there to place your mail on hold.
-
Step 3:
-
Do It Face To Face
-
If you prefer to cancel your mail at a post office, you can fill out an application to hold mail, a PS-8076 Form, and bring it to your local Post Office.
-
Step 4:
-
The Double-Check
-
To make sure that your mail has been placed on hold, ask a neighbor to stop by your mailbox and double check that your mail service has been suspended. If you prefer, have your mail placed on hold a few days early and check the mailbox yourself before you leave.
-
Step 5:
-
Just In Case…
-
If your mail isn't on hold or if you return early and want to get your mail, you can call the post office with your hold confirmation number and make any adjustments you want to your mail status.
