How To Raise Your Game

This VideoJug film takes you through a coaching technique for your personal development and successful journey. It's never too late to raise your game.

Hello, I'm Sarah Lloyd-Hughes from Ginger Training and Coaching, and today I'd like to give you a bite-size coaching technique on personal development. If you would like any more information about myself or my company, please visit go-ginger.com.

I often work with coaching clients who want to raise their game. This could be anything from struggling to meet your goals at work to having a sense that your peers are getting away you. Now, I'm a very practical coach so I'd like to talk you through a practical exercise.

I'm going to teach you the three three's technique for raising your game. It's straightforward and it will help you work on your own development. But before we get to the three three's, there's a bit of preparation I'd want you to do.

Grab yourself a blank sheet of paper and writes “success” in the middle in big friendly letters. Now, think about all your possible role models in the area of life that you'd like to improve. What are the skills, qualities and behaviors that make them successful? What did they say, do and think that's different to the rest of the pack? Brainstorm that now, just thinking quickly intuitively and don't stop until you've filled the page.

Okay, now you have your sheet with lots of different skills and qualities of success shining back at you. It might look something like this one or probably you have a few more words on it. Now, get yourself a different colored pen and start to look down the list.

On this sheet of paper, you have the key to helping you raise your game. Sp pick out words from the list that would really help your game and circle them. Do that now quickly and intuitively.

Now, remember I said this techniques was called the three three's. Well, here comes your first three. From your circled words, pick out three behaviors that really stand out to you because you currently lack them in your behaviors and they're holding you back from success.

Which factors would make a huge difference to your capacity to achieve success? These are going to be your three focus areas for raising your game. Pick those now and pause the video if you like. So you have your three success behaviors, now let's introduce your second and third three, your three checkpoints and your three questions.

Your three checkpoints are the beginning, the middle and the end of the day, and in each of these checkpoints, point aside a minute to ask yourself these three questions. What was my best moment with this behaviour since I checked? What was my worst moment? And what specifically do I need to do before the next checkpoint to improve on this habit? Now, to form a new behaviour you've been integrated completely into your whole lifestyle, it takes anywhere between 21 days and 245 days depending on how able you are to drop the old behaviour. So, I'd recommend you do this exercise daily for at least a month to see some effect.

Set a calendar alarm or an outlook reminder to make sure that this easy for you to do. And as soon as you feel confident in one of the behaviors, go back to your original list and pick the next one you want to work on. Stick at it and you'll raise your game in no time.

So, here's a summary of your three three's. One, choose three behaviors that would make the biggest difference to your success. Two, check in with those three behaviors three times a day, and three, ask your self the three questions.

What was your best moment? What was your worst moment? And what would you do to improve before your next checkpoint? This is just a snippet of what coaching techniques do to help you change your life.
