Hello, I'm Sarah Lloyd-Hughes from Ginger Training and Coaching, and today I'd like to give you a bite-size coaching technique on personal development. If you would like any more information about my self or my company, please visit go-ginger.com.

How to reach your goals? Wouldn't it be great if every goal we set our mind to would be achieved with no fuss, struggle or self-sabotage? Yet the reality is that so many of the goals we set ourselves fall by the wayside. Why is that? And how can you make sure you reach your goals? Reason 1, unrealistic goals. The first reason for a goal to be missed is that it was never realistic in the first place.

Often, we set goals like New Year's Resolutions in a moment of excitement rather than based on calm consideration of what we want versus what is possible given the time we have available. Expect things to go wrong or off-track in reaching a goal. Always allow more time for your goal thank you think.

Reason 2, I didn't really want that anyway. It's quite easy to duct out of the commitment of reaching a goal. That way, we avoid taking responsibility for our failure.

Generally, when you're really emotionally attached to a goal, you will make it happen somehow. So make sure that before setting your goal, you really want it. Then, ask yourself these two coaching questions.

How will you feel when you meet your goals? And what will achieving your goals make possible for you? This is your root of motivation for achieving the goal. Reason 3, other stuff just got in my way. Finally, what can you do if it seems like everything around you is conspiring to make you miss your goal? If that's the case, it's usually because other parts of your life are taking priority over your goal.

You need great accountability or healthy pressure to help you meet your goal. Most people work best if they know that they will let a person down if they miss a deadline. So, how many persons who can hold you accountable is actually preferable to having a reminder set on your computer.

So, agree a deadline with someone who you know is reliable and agree a consequence of you not completing your goal and a reward for completing your goal. You should then have enough healthy pressure to get going. Staying motivated towards your goal is a skill that needs some practice and expert guidance.
