How to Recognise Head Lice: Edward Hayes describes how to look for and identify head lice using a mirror.
Hi, I'm Edward Hayes. I'm a hair stylist at Andrew Jose hair salon in London. Firstly, I would say, generally look in the mirror.
Part your hair with your fingers like so. And just look on the part and what you will see on the hair would be, it's almost like - it would almost look like a dandruff but it's egg. It would be an egg from a head lice.
These generally stick to the head and Germany head lice would be found more on cleaner hair. If you obviously have children, you have to take into account, you have a bit more of high percentage of getting head lice yourself due to the fact that you have children. If there are many of it, go and see a doctor, they would advise you what shampoos to use.
You can actually just go to your local pharmacist. They would advise you to get a comb, there's a special comb that they use for head lice to remove the eggs from the scalp. But yeah, a way to check to this stuff, they would generally stick to the hair shaft.
And they would be quite rigorous to get off. They remove quite easily but depending with dry scalp, it just flakes off the head or dandruff which is pretty, you can see quite well, you'll notice the difference between the two. And so always just part the hair, look in the mirror and see if there - it would be more like a white egg that you would see.
And this is how to sort of determine if you have head lice.
