So, what we're going to talk about in this video is how to reformat a computer. Now, what do mean by reformatting a computer? Well, what we're really talking about is wiping it and starting again. One of the main things that you will need is an operating system CD.

Now this might be in the form of the system recovery CDs that came with the computer, or it might be that you've had to go out and buy a copy of Windows Seven or Windows XP because they didn't come with the computer. Now, either way, you're going to be using this disc to reinstall your computer after it's been reformatted. So the first thing that you do is to put the CD into the CD drive, make sure that your computer's booting from that CD drive, and then power it on.

At the beginning of this process, the computer will say, "Do you want to repair your copy of Windows, or do you want to reformat and reinstall?" And it's that latter option that you'll want to do. So make sure that you are reformatting your hard disc drive, and then click the options to install, and follow all of the installation prompts, until you've a nice fresh copy of Windows on your computer. Now, with some computers, they'll be using non-standard drivers that might not come with that version of Windows, so you'll need to visit that manufacturer's website, just Dell, or Sony, or IBM, and so on, to make sure you can download those drivers for your particular computer.

There are more detailed instructions on the steps you need to take when you're going through the installation process lower down on this page. And that's really about it. That's how to reformat a computer.
