How To Relieve Vomiting

Relieve Vomiting. This unpleasant sign of illness is uncomfortable to watch as well as experience. Learn how you can use several ways to relieve the symptoms.

Step 1:

You will need

  • 1 cloth
  • drinking water

Step 2:

Comfort the person

Reassure the person if they are vomiting by rubbing their back or supporting them in a comfortable position.

Step 3:

Use a warm cloth

Then dampen a cloth in warm water, wring it out and give it to the person to wipe their face.

Step 4:

Drink plain fluids

Give the person plenty of clear fluids like water or still isotonic glucose drinks. Alternatively, add 1 teaspoon of salt per litre and 4-5 teaspoons of sugar per litre to water. They should sip slowly.

Step 5:

Avoid spicy food

For the next 24 hours if the person feels hungry, only give easily digested non-spicy foods.
If the vomiting persists, seek medical advice

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! DO NOT GIVE WATER under any circumstance, it induces further vomiting. Flat ginger ale or flat cola works best. Water only sets up the next round of nausea.

water causes more vomiting - never give water without adding some sugar (2 teaspoons of light tee with sugar is ok for the beginning - at least 2 hours after vomiting)

no no no! do NOT drink plain water this irritates the stomach. drink gatorade or lucozade to settle it and reydrate the body. soda/cola etc has high amounts of sugar that causes you to vomit more. trust me - i had a bad case of food poisoning not long ago and this is what i was recommended in hospital

Chewing gum really helps preventing vomiting. Also, the person shouldn't eat any solid food; only cold soda like Pepsi or CocaCola. I know it sounds ridiculous, but its true, its helps. Try it out ;)

Its 1 in the morning and your friend decided that downing the bottle of vodka was a great way to have fun. Please do a video on 'How to help your friend who has drunk too much', it would be bloody useful seeing as I have heard the strangest rubbish being passed around.

Placing a cool, damp cloth on the back on the neck helps too.

This is all fine and dandy if the person has a slight stomach bug or food poisoning. But if the person is vomiting continously for a long period of time, and nothing is coming up, then gravol (dimenhydrinate) should be given (either as a chewable tab that is dissolved in the mouth and swished around before swallowing, or as a suppository) to stop the vomiting. it works like a charm. obviously see a doctor if their condition doesn't improve.
