How To Remember Your Dreams

Recalling a dream can be extremely difficult. Dreams tend to be fleeting and elusive, and the memory of them fades quickly. So this film can teach you techniques for remembering dreams and using a dream journal to keep a record of them.

Step 1: Prepare

Dreams will be easier to remember if you are calm and relaxed before going to bed. Try not to be completely exhausted or fatigued when you go to bed, as this will cause you to sleep more deeply, making your dreams more difficult to remember. Avoid drinking alcohol, or stimulants such as caffeine, before bed. You can consider taking supplements such as vitamin B-6, melatonin and 5-HTP as, these will increase the vividness of your dreams and make them easier to recall. Before falling asleep, tell yourself repeatedly that you are going to remember your dreams.

Step 2: Recalling dreams

You'll be more likely to remember your dreams if you wake up during the night, so try waking yourself with an alarm clock, or drinking lots of water before bed so you wake for a toilet break. Whether you wake up during the night or at your normal time in the morning, lie still for a few moments after waking and try to recall as many details as possible about your dreams. Then turn on a soft light, and record as much detail as possible about your dream, either by writing in a dream journal or using a voice recorder.

Step 3: Keeping a dream journal

Keep everything you'll need to record dreams next to your bed for easy access. Have a dream journal, pen and suitable light ready to use as soon as you wake. When writing your dream descriptions, write as much detail as possible, including people, objects and feelings you experienced in your dreams. This will help you identify recurring trends and patterns in your dreams. Also write down the date of each dream, so you can easily refer back to it. Once you have developed the habit of dream journaling, you will probably find remembering your dreams becomes easier and easier.
Sweet dreams!
