Hello. I am Charles Goldman, a qualified Chiropodist Podiatrist. I run the Foot Pad Chiropody Physical Therapy Clinic in Holborn, Central London.

Today, I am going to talk to you about various foot problems and their treatment. In this short video, we are going to talk about the treatment of corns. Corns are generally pressure lesions caused often by ill-fitting shoes or uneven skate when you walk.

The first thing to realize is only a dermal thing, only applies to the skin. It is normally a plug of hard skin like a concentrated callus and the best way to remove this is with a scalp pull. We obviously do not recommend you try this yourself at home, but the best way is to dig out the plug of hard skin and an experienced chiropodist can do this without causing any other injury.

Once you have achieved that, you then try and avoid repeating the pressure that causes it in the first place. They are not a permanent thing and they do not have to repeat. If you stop putting pressure on that spot, the corn will not reappear.

After you had the corn removed, it is always advisable to use a moisturizer to keep the skin soft and help prevent the build up of the callus in that local spot. So we do recommend that you seek help from a professional and not try and to remove it yourself, because you can cause an injury that is worse that the corn itself. And this is the way we recommend you treat corns. .
