How To Remove Lipstick Stains From Clothes

Step 1: You Will Need
- shaving cream
- club soda
- bar soap
- undiluted glycerin
- isopropyl or denatured alcohol
- clear dishwashing liquid
- light colored cloths
Step 2: Get Ready
Always treat your stain as soon as you can. Fold a light colored cloth and place it underneath the stain to prevent the stain from spreading to more fabric. Avoid dark colored cloth to prevent dye bleeding onto the fabric. When possible, work from the inside out. This helps the stain to lift off of the fabric instead of through the fabric.
Step 3: Shave It Out
Shaving cream can be a good solvent for lipstick stains. Work a dab into the stain making sure you are working from the outside in. Don't scrub too hard or you will cause the fabric to fray. Rinse with club soda or cold water.
Step 4: To The Bar
If shaving cream doesn't get rid of the stain, rub a wet bar of soap onto the stain and gently lather. Rinse thoroughly.
Step 5: Glycerin
Glycerin is a vegetable oil by-product that's used for soap making and works well for loosening the stain up to make it easier to remove. You can find glycerin at your local health food store. Work a small amount into the stain. If this does the trick, then launder as usual and you're done.
Step 6: Last Call
As a last resort, dab the stain with isopropyl or denatured alcohol, which you can find at your local hardware store. Be sure to work in a well ventilated area away from flames and other heat sources. Next, rub a small amount of clear or white dishwashing liquid on to the spot. Then launder as usual.
