How To Remove Wallpaper Border
This video provides and demonstrates the proper techniques used in removing wallpaper. Now, you don't have to worry about doing it yourself at home.
In this video, I'm going to demonstrate how to remove a wallpaper border. So, once you've got some water in your bucket, you soak your sponge and you just apply it across the border like that. Do not worry if you go into the part of the wall, that doesn't matter, it's just water.
Make sure you give a good soaking, that's very important. And then, once it's soaked, you can start lifting it. Now, there are two different scrapers here.
This one, I would use on a larger area, if I was stripping wallpaper from a wall, and this one is perfect for actually stripping the border off. So, basically, what you do is just gently start lifting and putting your scraper under. If you want to keep the paper underneath, you have to be very, very gentle on how you do it, like so, and then, you can just start pulling up like that.
If it starts coming off in bits, that's fine. You might have to add some more water as you're doing it, just to soften up the paper. So, and again, you can see it's starting to lift.
So, we'll just start working here, and again, just keep lifting gently. And whatever you do, don't put too much pressure on the knife, because if you do, you'll end up ripping the backing paper, just gently along, and then until you've got it all off. And just keep taking this off like so.
Just add a little bit more water, and don't worry if you add too much water, because it will dry like I said. It's of the safest and easiest ways to remove a border, giving you a nice clean edge to paint on. Now, some people would use a paint stripper or a steam stripper.
Don't use that, there's no need to use that on small sections like this. And what that will actually do if you use that is it could actually end up soaking right through and removing the backing paper, and as I said, that's what we don't want to do. We just want to gently remove the existing border, like so.
Here we are. Be careful with this edge because it's very, very sharp and you could actually hurt yourself. Here we are, that's how to remove a wallpaper border.
