Hi. I'm Mike, and this is Dan, and we're from the Lawn Company. We have a wealth of experience in looking after lawns, large and small, and we're going to show you some handy tips on how to care for your lawn.

I'm going to show you how to renovate a lawn. There are nine key stages that you need to follow, in sequence, in order to create a better lawn at the end of it. Firstly, treat the lawn.

Get rid of what you don't want. Get rid of the weeds, get rid of the moss. Leave it for two weeks, then get the lawn mower out and mow the lawn on a lower than normal setting.

This gets rids of the volume of the lawn. Scarify the lawn, next. That's getting rid of the dead grass and debris from the surface of the lawn.

Take small areas at a time, rake in one direction with a lot of pressure on this hand doing it. Put it in the other direction. What you will see, is that if the debris wants to come out of the lawn, then it will.

Collect up the debris. You can use a lawn mower, so mow the lawn again, and this gets the vegetation on the lawn as low as possible. Aerate the lawn, to allow the free flow of water and air in and out of the soil.

Over-seed the lawn - that's supplying new grass seed to the surface of the lawn. Not too heavily, but not too sparsely. And then, top dress the lawn.

That's supplying a soil type to fill in the micro-levels of the lawn. What we're aiming to do is to place around about a third of the wheelbarrow on the lawn, and then we need a tool to work the top dress material into the surface of the lawn. We're aiming to apply no more than a quarter of an inch, on the surface of the lawn.

Now, you start on the corners, this lawn would have already been seeded. Finally, water the lawn, if rain isn't expected - little and often to help the grass seed germinate and establish quickly. That's how you renovate your lawn. .
