Now, I'm going to show you how to rig up a fishing rod. Here, we've got a fishing rod and a reel, so I'm going to show you how we would put it all together. So, this rod is in four sections.

It happens to be a fly fishing rod but the same principles for putting the rod together would apply to any kind of fishing tackle. Basically, we take the tapered sections and in turn, we carefully slide one into the other and what we're going to try to do is to line up the rings so that they're all on the same side of the rod. Push the rod together gently.

Don't force it because that could damage the rod. That's two of the sections put together. Here's the third one.

Line up those rings again. Now, the final section of the rod, right, that's the rod connected now. It's gone from four pieces into the whole fishing rod.

Now, we've got the reel so you want to put the reel onto the rod. We've got what we call the reel seat, which is here where the reel is going to go, so we position the reel in its place and use the little screwing lock nut to actually get the reel positioned on the rod. That's nice and firmly in position.

Now, we need to put the line through the rod so the easiest way to get that is to get the thick line, which we can see most easily and then, one after another, we're going to thread that line up through the rings of the rod until we've done them all. I've put the rod down and now, angling it slightly away from myself so that I can reach the rings as we move up the rod, trying to make sure that we don't miss any of the rings as we go. There we've threaded all the line up through the rod and we're ready to go.

There we have it, nice and simple. How you put a fishing rod together. .
