If you're planning to roof a house, you might be faced with the task of choosing among the different types of tiles for your roof. This video guides you through the commonly used tiles and what they are used for.

How to roof a house. We're now going to go through the different types of tiles we can use for choosing for our roof. There are two different types of tiles, plain tiles and we've got the machine made clay which is very nice.

They come in a terracotta colour and obviously, they are more expensive than a concrete tile. Again, these are different colours obviously done by customer preference and these are a lot cheaper than the machine made clays. Another style of roofing tiles is a bigger tile and a fully interlocking tile.

Because these are bigger tiles, you won't need as many to cover your roof. So, these are red by 49 and there are red ridging, and again, these boil down to customer preference. Here we have different types of ridge tiles.

This is what sits on top of your roof, the piggy roof. Again, you could choose different types and colours. This is a clay ridge and this works with the rosemary tile.

It's obviously the same kind of material. This is the hip which goes up the corner of the roof. They are slightly smaller than the ridge and you use these for the corners of your roof.

There are obviously different types, different traditions, big or small. This is a universal angled ridge. I tend to use these with slated roofs which are quite nice.

I would choose a terracotta ridge on a slated roof. And obviously, you have a small style which is probably ideal for poultry roofs on a smaller scale. This is a plain tile bonnet which, again, works quite well with the rosemary.

Instead of using a hip, you could use bonnets which look really nice and they make it look really traditional. And that's how you roof a house. .
