How To Rule Lines
How To Rule Lines - This VideoJug film gives you advise on getting started in the art of calligraphy, starting at the very basics showing you how to rule properly and which tools are needed.
Hi, I'm Veiko from the Calligraphy Studio in London and I am going to show you how to rule up your paper.
You will need a ruler which has straight lines, an automatic 0.3 mm pencil which does not need sharpening and some paper. You can use a set square or a T square to help make straight lines.
Firstly, using a squared ruler, make sure the grid lines line up squarely with the top of the paper and rule your first line. You need to know what distance you want between the lines. Here, I am measuring lines 1cm apart using the grid lines as a guide. In order to create beautiful writing you need to rule up accurately. Make sure you do not apply too much pressure when ruling lines so they can be erased afterwards.
