How To Run The Apple Hardware Test
There are a few ways you can test to see if your iPod or iPhones are in good working conditions by following expert tips on running a hardware test for these devices.
In this video, I'm going to show you how to run the Apple hardware test or diagnostic mode for a click model iPod. You can run this on an iPod video or an iPod classic and if you think you have a problem with any of the aspects of the iPod, this should show up to you. So, to get into the diagnostic mode, all you have to do is hold the menu and the centre buttons until you see the Apple logo.
Once you see the Apple logo, hold the back button and the centre button, and then you'll see the screen fake down and then you'll be presented with the option to do manual tests for specific items or you can run for an auto test which will do all the tests with you in turn. If we do the auto test, it's first testing the SD RAM which has got a pass. Press menu to continue.
It now asks me to press all the buttons in the iPod and highlight them as they're successfully detected. And press menu again to get back to the wheel test and then, we can run the finger around the whole wheel and once it's detected, all the segments, it will give it a pass. So, if we press menu to continue, we are able to test the hold switch, so it's detecting the hold switch is off and now it's on.
So, it will go from one to zero. And then, we can press menu to continue. HP detect is just to test that so that it can tell you whatever it's detecting the headphones inside the iPod so that you can pause the music, for example.
So, if we plug the headphones in, we can switch to one and then we can unplug them. The LCD test is just indicating that there is no problem with the LCD. We've now got USB detect which we can use to test that the pod is okay.
If we suspect there could be damage to the pod, so if we plug in that now, that should switch from a zero to a one and then back to zero again. So, if any of these present an issue, then at least you know what might be wrong with your iPod. You can get back out of this by holding the menu in the middle button, it will reset and go back into normal operation.
So, that's how to run diagnostic mode on an iPod classic or a video. .
