How To Salsa Dance: The Open Break Under Arm For The Follower

The salsa open break under arm turn is an exciting salsa dance step. Award-winning competitive dance pair Michael Kuka and Natalia Lind will show us the follower's part in this dynamic salsa move.

Step 1: Footwork For The Follower

The salsa open break under arm turn is an exciting salsa dance step. The follower's footwork starts with a back break. Placing both feet together with equal weight on both feet, you then move your right foot backward about a foot or two, placing your weight on this foot. Next, keeping both feet where they are, replace your weight to your left foot. Now bring your right foot back to it's original position next to your right foot. Now step across your right foot with your left foot and pivot on both feet a half turn and then pivot another half turn and finish by closing her feet.

Step 2: Upper Body For The Follower

In terms of upper body movement, the follower will hold the leader in the closed position for the first back break, bringing her left hand down on the last count of the first back break (seven) with his. Now you release your right hand from under his shoulder and go into an open break position. On three, the leader will elevate your right hand and begin to circle you a full rotation clockwise.
