How To Salt Popcorn
This video talks about how to salt popcorn
Hi there! I'm Matt from the underground cookery school. And today I'm going to do a video cookery lesson for you. Well, what you want to know is how to salt popcorn.
You want to know is what order to do it in and I'm going to show you. The first thing we need to do obviously is to cook the popcorn from raw. So what I'm going to do is put some olive oil in the pan.
I'm just going to use a bit of kitchen paper to grease the pan that we're cooking it in. Stick it on the hob and then I'm going to add these kernels, its corn maize. They've got a very hard outer shell which is virtually impenetrable to moisture and yet a thick protein in the middle so when you put them into a hot, there we go.
Stick the lid on. What will happen is the intensity of the heat will actually just try to force the moisture in the protein out and what happens is because they can't get out they just explode and pop. What then happens is, as soon as those are ready and it takes about, you know, and I can already hear one or two of them beginning to pop but it takes about 4-6 minutes to pop all of them.
We're going to put them in a bowl and then we're gonna add a little bit of salt so come back to me in about 4 minutes and we'll carry on. Well that popcorn has been "pop"-ping away for about 3-5 minutes so I'm going to take it off the hob and here is where you add the salt now the corns are quite greasy because there's still grease in the pan so if you just sprinkle liberally with salt at this point, that my friend is how to salt "pop"-corn.
